CHICAGO—May 24, 2017– The Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification, Inc. (ABSNC), and The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) have granted reaccreditation to the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) for the CRNA certification
program. The rigorous process and high standards required to attain these accreditations helps to ensure that the CRNA credential stands for quality and competence in nurse anesthesia practice nationwide.

ABSNC accreditation is a peer-reviewed mechanism that allows nursing certifying organizations to obtain program accreditation by demonstrating compliance with the highest quality standards in the industry. When the NBCRNA received its initial accreditation from the ABSNC in August 1992, it was one of the first national certification bodies to be recognized and approved by the ABSNC. NCCA is the accrediting body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (formerly the National Organization for Competency Assurance) that serves more than 270 accreditation programs. The NBCRNA received its initial accreditation by the NCCA in June 1984 and our programs have been continuously accredited since 1980.

“The National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists is pleased to continue our accreditation by ABSNC and NCCA for our nurse anesthesia certification. These recognitions are considered the benchmark for boards that provide certification to nursing professionals. It reflects our commitment to the high standards as we complete the rigorous process to demonstrate maintenance of a quality certification program in meeting the ABSNC standards, and NCCA standards, and earning these  prestigious acknowledgements. With the intricacy of the healthcare system, certification with ongoing
maintenance improves the quality and outcomes of the care provided. NBCRNA is proud to be accredited by ABSNC and NCCA, and among those committed to ongoing certification,” said Karen Plaus, PhD, CRNA, FAAN, CAE, Chief Executive Officer, NBCRNA.
