Statement on Protecting Public Trust
The National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) exists to protect the public by promoting patient safety through independent, rigorous credentialing of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). This mission guides every aspect of the organization’s work ensuring that CRNAs have demonstrated the knowledge and continued competence necessary to provide safe and effective anesthesia care.
NBCRNA’s vision is to be recognized as a leader in advanced practice nurse credentialing. That vision is achieved through credentialing programs that are evidence-based, transparent, and aligned with nationally recognized standards.
Certifying organizations, including the NBCRNA, independently assess knowledge related to the safe practice of nurse anesthesia. This knowledge assessment serves as an objective and standardized measure of readiness for entry into practice and continued professional qualification.
NBCRNA’s work is rooted in core values that emphasize professionalism, integrity, fairness, accountability, and respect for due process. All actions taken by the organization are preceded by appropriate due diligence and carried out in accordance with established policies and procedures. NBCRNA operates without arbitrary or capricious actions and remains within the bounds of its authority. Its policies are publicly available and accessible in advance of any action, ensuring transparency, consistency, and procedural fairness in all matters.
In an increasingly complex and ever-changing environment, healthcare leadership requires restraint, a clear sense of purpose, and commitment to shared professional ideals. Guided by its mission, vision, and values, NBCRNA remains focused on its responsibility to the public and the profession it upholds.
