CHICAGO, March 24, 2020 - The NBCRNA recognizes the extraordinary impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on every individual, business and family, while creating unprecedented challenges for the CRNA community. We realize some CRNAs may be unable to meet the CE requirements necessary to renew their credential due to the cancellation of recent continuing education meetings and other learning opportunities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unprecedented times call for unprecedented actions. So, based on our ongoing communications with the Council on Accreditation (COA), the AANA, our testing vendors, CE providers, and members of the nurse anesthesia community, the NBCRNA is taking steps to help allay expressed concerns about meeting the Continued Professional Certification (CPC) Program requirements to renew your CRNA credential.
The NBCRNA has made the following one-time adjustment to the CPC Program timeline and deadlines to provide some relief from the many timing constraints everyone is currently facing.
- The NBCRNA is extending the July 31, 2020 certification renewal deadline by four months to November 30, 2020, allowing additional time to fulfill the CPC requirements.
This one-time adjustment applies to CRNAs who are due to renew their certification by July 31, 2020. Although the change in the deadline would not affect future CPC cycle deadlines for those individuals, it will allow them additional time to earn any remaining Class A and Class B credits necessary to meet the requirement of this current 4-year CPC cycle.
For the many who have already earned your requirements over the past four years and are ready to apply for your certification renewal, we encourage you to do so once the applications open on 4/14/2020. You will remain on schedule and can begin accumulating your Class A and Class B credits for your next 4-year CPC cycle after your application is approved.
We will continue to monitor the impact of the crisis and make additional decisions as needed. We are acting on plans to revise deadlines, and are working with certificants, program administrators and students to navigate the disruptions caused by the pandemic. Our goal throughout this crisis is to stay connected with the CRNA community, and be responsive and supportive. The NBCRNA is available to answer your credential questions and will continue to communicate essential information to you as quickly as possible through email, website additions, and social media channel posts.
From everyone at the NBCRNA, thank you for your dedication to the profession and be safe!
